Overview
Comprehensive genomic profiling examines many cancer-related genes and biomarkers in one assay. It may use tumour tissue or circulating tumour DNA from blood. In April 2025, a Scientific Reports paper described the genomic landscape of 1,000 solid-tumour patients from an Indian institutional cohort. Genomic data is sensitive and some tumour results may suggest an inherited predisposition. Before testing, ask how samples and data are stored, whether de-identified data may be used in research, who can access results and how long material is retained. If a possible germline alteration appears, formal genetic counselling and a separate validated germline sample may be needed before informing relatives. Obtain the complete report and methodology, not only a summary. Discuss how results will be shared securely with the home oncologist and whether re-interpretation is offered as knowledge changes.
